A Guide to Enjoying New York Nightlife

A Guide to Enjoying New York Nightlife

They call it the city that never sleeps for a good reason. New York has A LOT to offer everyone — tourists (domestic and international) as well as its natives. It’s such a beautiful city with lots of action, movement, and sights — day and night. When the sun goes down in New York, a different side of the city comes to life, and it is one that is worth experiencing just as much as during the day. However, with so many options out there, it can be difficult to know where to begin — and a tad bit overwhelming. This guide is here to simplify things somewhat, and to give you a few ideas of how you can spend enjoying New York nightlife. Here we go!

Enjoy a Broadway Show

It probably comes as no surprise that I’m recommending a Broadway show during your time in New York. Although it can get a little expensive, there are plenty of ways that you can get discounted prices online. I highly recommend it at least once though – I’ve seen The Lion King and Aladdin, and I kid you not, New York Broadway shows are SUPER amazing and entertaining. My favorite out of these two was Aladdin – I was laughing so much because their Genie was AMAZING. Another option is to check out the various off-Broadway shows where you can see some up-and-coming performances for a much more affordable rate.

See the City Illuminated

A Night in the Big Apple: Tips to Enjoy the New York Nightlife | Bad with Directions Blog | Going to New York City is exciting and can be a bit overwhelming. Here are my tips for some activities you could do at night to really enjoy all that the wonderful Big Apple has to offer.

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love nighttime city lights. Seeing everything by day is one thing, but seeing everything at night makes you feel like you’re in a different world. Seeing New York from one of its skyscrapers is a must-do activity, but when the city is lit up at night-time, this gives you an entirely different impression of the Big Apple. The Empire State Building is obviously the most famous viewpoint that you can go to, but Top of the Rock and the One World Trade Center Observatory are both great options as well – check out ticket passes beforehand to get a good price and avoid lines.

Go to a Stand-Up Comedy or Improv Show

Some of the greatest comedians in the world started right here, so why not check out one of the many stand-up or improv shows that are showing during your stay. Of course, the big clubs can get very expensive, but if you are in the mood for seeing some performers who are less well-known, you can get tickets for just a few dollars. I definitely recommend this for having a relaxed and laugh-filled night with your friends or even for a date with your loved one.

Take a Night Bus or Boat

Hopping on the Staten Island Ferry is a free activity that gives you the opportunity to see the Statue of Liberty up close and personal – especially at night. Hop-on-hop-off buses or even party buses with a great event transport company called Bergen Limo https://www.bergenlimo.com/fleet/ny-party-bus-rental/ could be a fun and convenient way to spend a night out in the city. In the warmer months, there are plenty of bus tours that operate during the later hours where you may find out some New York trivia that you never knew before. There’s even cool night walking tours, helicopter trips, after-dark photography tours, pub crawls, etc. Just do a bit of research and don’t be afraid to splurge a little for a unique experience, or to meet a few strangers and really enjoy your night out.

Visit a Museum or Memorial

If you’re looking for something a little more cultured for your evening’s entertainment, there are plenty of museums and memorials which stay open until 9 pm or later. Checking them out is a good way to escape the crowds that build up during the day and maybe even get some of the exhibits all to yourself. You can also take the quiet time to really process information and fully engage with the exhibits.

There is a lot to see and do in New York

Though there are a million other things you could do in New York at night (like shopping, skating, escape rooms, or markets), these are just a few of the top activities to try out if you are traveling here. After all, you’re in one of the greatest cities in the world and you’ll want to soak up all the experiences that you can! Although I usually like saving money while traveling, I definitely think New York is one of those places where you’re better off spending a little more and going full-out.
