Four of the Best Tourist Attractions in Texas

Four of the Best Tourist Attractions in Texas

There are 50 states in the U.S., and Texas is the biggest…for A LOT of things! But people always get the wrong idea about Texas… They immediately think of the stereotypical Texas they see in movies: only cowboy hats, boots, and horses everywhere. But that’s not the whole picture! It’s actually an incredibly interesting place to visit with all sorts of great things to do. (It can be cheap to fly to as well.) If you’re a nature lover, there’s lots for you to see. It’s also one of the best places in the world to go if you want some good old-fashioned comfort food. Yum! Here is a quick list of just some of the amazing attractions you can visit in the Lone Star State.

The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas

As the name suggests, this museum is on the sixth floor of the Dallas County Administration Building. It’s a museum dedicated to the life and assassination of President Kennedy. If you’re at all interested in the history of the U.S., it’s an absolute must-see while in Dallas. There are all sorts of artifacts, photographs and eyewitness accounts from people who knew him and people who were there on the day he was shot. It’s an incredible collection which currently holds around 45,000 items but they’re constantly adding to it. I’ll admit and say I’m not huge on history museums, but this one is definitely interesting!

The Dallas Zoo

The largest and oldest zoo in Texas is also in Dallas. You’ll find an impressive collection of animals there including endangered tigers, chimpanzees, and Koalas (or you can also come to Australia to see them in their natural habitat!). This is one of the best zoos in the entire country and is big enough to spend a couple of days there.

If you’re heading to Dallas during your trip to Texas and want to be near all of the attractions, you can stay in the Holiday Inn Dallas Richardson, which is super close to the zoo.

Six Flags!

If you’re a thrill seeker and LOVE theme parks, (like me!), Florida and California are probably your go-to destinations, but Texas also has a Six Flags of its own. Six Flags is a great amusement park with loads of amazing rides that rival anything you’ll find at Disney. I’ve gone to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California sooo many times. By the way, is it on anyone else’s bucket list to visit all the Six Flags theme parks?

Anyway, this one is in Arlington, just a short drive from Dallas — so it’s easily accessible. They have a lot of great music shows there celebrating country music, which is central to Texas. They also host other events throughout the year so it’s worth checking what’s on when you’re planning your trip!

The Houston Space Center

This is a contender for one of the most popular tourist attractions in Texas, and although it can get pretty busy, it’s definitely worth visiting. The space center is home to the real NASA mission control and it’s where all of the space missions are directed from. They also have a huge collection of artifacts from previous space missions so you can see a real-life space shuttle, try on a space suit and learn all about what it’s like up there in space. It’s a great family attraction and an absolute must for anybody that’s interested in science. Have you ever been to the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida?

Have you ever been to Texas?

These are only just a few of the incredible attractions that you’ll find in Texas. You also have to take into consideration the fairs, the music, and the FOOD. I would love to go more into depth about the wonderful, tasty, and huge, food Texas has to offer.

I’ve only ever been to Austin in Texas! It’s a great city too 🙂 But, I will have to try and add in a visit to Dallas and/or Houston next time. Love the idea of visiting the Space Center!
